Hello, I’m Damian (a.k.a. scruffy_hugo), an author & illustrator living and working in Gubbi Gubbi Country, Moreton Bay, Australia.

I create endearing characters informed by a background in animation, and my digital inks and watercolours are influenced by frequent traditional practice. I also write regularly, and have published a climate-awareness comic novel through Australian Geographic, as well as recently having self-published a spider-friendly picture book with my partner and gardening ally.

I’ve designed logos and artwork for small businesses, created painterly videos for NY-based Concord Music, worked in local animation studios, licensed wildlife characters to Australian & American children’s educators, and regularly advocate for wildlife, environmental, and community causes.
